Useful Camping tips for you
1.Understand How to set up Your Tent before You Go
Before you head off on your adventure you will want to have a good tent that you are familiar with or know how to set up your tent. if you are buying one for the first time set it up in your yard and make sure that its not too complicated to set up by yourself. Before purchasing your tent know if it is the right size for you and whoever you’ll want to be camping with. If you are going to be camping alone you might not want to purchase a tent that is super complicated to set up.
2. Do some research before you go camping
Have a general idea on where you would like to go, and have a few back up plans. Know the area where you are planning on going. If you cant book a campsite in advance sometimes there are campsites around the area that have first come first served sites. Also some campsites even have a designated area that is for first come first served.
3. Have some food packed in a cooler
If you are only going for a couple days or a weekend you can pack a cooler with the basics you can have ready made food wrapped up in tin foil so you can just easily through it on the fire when you get to your campsite. If there is a fire ban you might want to have a back up plan. Packing sandwiches and veggies, fruit, and simple snacks will get you through. I find having a big ice block in the bottom works just perfect and also having a few ice packs to go around your food helps keep it cool for a long time.
4. Know if there are any services close to your Campsite
Just in case you forgot something or if your anything me, I love a fresh coffee in the morning. You could start the fire and brew some coffee if you brought all your supplies for that. I find that lately I like to get going fast in the morning to get on with my adventures so if there’s a store in your campsite or restaurant you can grab a quick coffee and head off on your first adventure for the day. If you like sticking around the campsite and making your coffee that is awesome too! Make sure you bring your favorite coffee and also all the stuff you like in it. Packing powdered creamer and sugar works if your not very fussy, as its less stuff to load into your cooler.
5. Bring the right sleeping Gear
Camping is a little about roughing it but personally as I get older I find that camping is more enjoyable if you are prepared with the right sleeping gear. this way you will get a good night sleep and feel refreshed in the morning. You can do this with a good blow up mattress and a pump to fill it up. bring a sheet or blanket to go on the mattress and having one good sleeping bag should do it in the summer, but to be sure packing extra blankets is a good idea. Don’t forget a comfy pillow.
6. Have an idea about what the campsite offers
Before you book your campsite, think about what kind of activities you are interested in. Some sites have pools, trails that are super close, playgrounds for kids, or touristy adventures. It all depends on what your interests are. If you find that your site doesn’t have fresh drinking water you will have to pack bottled water and find a place near you to have a shower. I find that packing unscented baby wipes or cleaning clothes work awesome for washing your hands and face.
7. Charging your phones and devices
If you are at a serviced site this will be no problem for you but if you happen to stay at an un-serviced campsite make sure you make use of the time when you are traveling to your adventures to plug in your phones and devices. You don’t want your battery in your car to go dead by leaving it on too long just to charge your phone. Bring the right adapter with you that works in your car. You can also get one of the battery packs that have a USB and also a has a home plug-in built in.
8. When you secure your site think about where the best place is to set your tent up
Before you set up your tent look for a place that is flat and free of debris. setting up your tent on high ground is a great option, setting it up in a low slope area will not be good if it rains. One of the worst things would be waking up to a soggy tent and belongings.
9. Know what type of weather its going to be while you are camping
If you know that it is going to be super hot out try and secure a site that offers some shade for your tent. Your camping experience will be much more enjoyable if you have a little shade. If its going to be cool this wont matter as much. I find its nice camping in sites that do have a lot of trees because I love the beautiful scenery.
10. Pack the right kind of clothes
If your going to be staying in a tent it is important to dress for all sorts of unpredictable weather. If you are going to be staying in the mountains the weather can change quickly. Having clothes with you that are easily layered up is a good plan. Packing a few different kinds of footwear is a good idea (shoes, sandals, hiking boots) because you might end up wanting to do certain activities that may require closed toe shoes such as hiking.
