Trails

If you are traveling with your dog and you’re looking for a place to let him out to take a break or needs to get some exercise there are many of the trails in Medicine Hat are dog friendly and also off leash, If you are not up for trails there is also a great dog park you can visit to let your dog burn off some energy.

 Saratoga Dog Park – This dog park is located on Factory Street S.E. that is a fully enclosed dog park that allows dogs to run around and have fun.

 

The World's Tallest Tepee

Saamis Teepe – is located on 32 Eagle Birth Rd S.W. Close to the Visitor Information Center in. The Saamis Tepee is huge! The Main masts of the tepee measure 215 feet (the same as a 20 story building), and the diameter is 160 feet, with a foundation weight of 800 metric tons.

Popular activities to do in medicine hat

Medicine Hat has many interesting things you can do to pass the time while you are here.

  1. Big Marble Go Center (Previously the Family Leisure Center) – Offers an Olympic sized ice arena, aquatic centre with hot pool, swim lanes, wave pool, water slides. Indoor fields and a gym.
  2. Medicine Hat Mall – Has over 80 shops, food court, arcade, and Theater 
  3. Medalta Historic Clay District – Offers pottery classes and creative workshops. There are self-guided and guided tours through the Medalta museum.
  4. Coop Place – Many different events such as concerts, Monsters & Mayhem, Hockey games and much more.
  5. Medicine Hat Speedway – Alberta’s only paved oval race track
  6. Hoopla’s Mini Golf – Is an 18 hole miniature golf course that is great for all ages.
  7. Panorama Lanes – Offers 5-pin bowling lanes and twelve 10-pin bowling lanes, all with automatic scoring, this facility also has pool tables and a kids play park.
  8. Inland Skate Park – In Kin Coulee Park down the hill from Medicine Hat College
  9. Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre – Has numerous things to do such as experiencing different performances, exploring the museum, yoga, art classes for children and much more.
  10. Windmill Garden Center and butterfly House – A great place to purchase plants and gifts and also learn about a butterfly’s life cycle. There are so many delightful items in this garden center.

There are many local businesses downtown that are great places to check out.  Plus there are many creative murals that are displayed downtown. Grab a delightful drink and take a self guided tour of all the amazing murals displayed downtown. 

  1. Medicine Hat Public Library – A great place to view the South Saskatchewan River. Grab your favorite book, sit near the window and take in the nice view.
  2. Swirls ice cream shop – A locally owned business with an amazing variety of ice cream treats.
  3. Riverside Veterans Memorial Park – A small park located downtown with a view of the South Saskatchewan River and the Finlay Bridge. 

Float the South Saskatchewan River

Near Boat Launch In Echo Dale Regional Park

If you have some extra time you can rent a kayak canoe or stand up paddle board to float the South Saskatchewan River. There is a boat launch in Echo Dale Regional Park that is a great place to start out then float the river until you get to Strathcona Park in Medicine Hat. Equipment Rentals

If you get your fill of Medicine Hat there are a few places that you can venture to that are within a 45 min drive.

Areas that have a great view

View of the cliffs - Echo Dale Regional Park

View of the City – If you are in Crescent Heights there are many different lookout spots. Drive on Mcutcheon Dr. N.W to get a really nice view of Medicine Hat. There are walking trails along this road as well as benches to sit and take a break.

View of the Cliffs – A great place to get a wonderful view of the cliffs around Medicine Hat is out at Echo Dale Regional Park. This hidden oasis is just a 15 minute drive from the city center. 

View of the South Saskatchewan River – There are many places in Medicine Hat that you can view the South Saskatchewan River. One of my favorites is the: Finlay Bridge- This green bridge is located downtown close to the city hall and the Riverside Veterans Memorial Park. Pedestrians can walk across the bridge making it a very nice spot to view the river.
